Tuning

We can tailor an accurate tuning service to suit the needs of the beginner through to the virtuoso in the studio or the concert hall. A perfectly tuned piano is essential not just for your listening enjoyment but for the correct aural education of your child and the full musical expression of the discerning professional. Regulating

If you feel that your piano is too light, too heavy or too slow to repond to your touch, then it may need regulating. We can adjust the touch of your piano so that it responds instantaneously and smoothly. It will be exactly the way you want it to be and a pure joy to play!

Voicing

The tone of your piano should be pleasing to the ear and allow you to clearly project your music and emotions. If it sounds too "tinny" or too dull, it is time to have the hammers altered. This is termed voicing and, when done properly, tailors the tone of your piano to suit you.

The voicing process begins with reshaping and/or refacing the hammer. This removes from the hammer felt the deep grooves made when the hammer comes into contact with the strings (see picture, left). A clean, smooth hammer face is essential for correct voicing. In fact, the hammer is responsible for up to 60% of a piano's tone colour.

Once the hammer shape and face have been correctly adjusted (see above, left), the hammer felt is then needled (above, right). This adjusts the hammer's density and helps to create a consistent tone across the keyboard.
